The yin and yang motif has inspired artists around the world for years. It is no exaggeration to call the Royal Canadian Mint’s interpretation of this motif a work of art. The Canadians are experts in their craft, proving what true craftsmanship is all about.
Yin and yang – now also in numismatics
The concept of yin and yang – complementary forces – is one of the foundations of Chinese philosophy. Transposing it into numismatics required the creation of a coin with two interdependent parts. The designers of the Royal Canadian Mint, therefore, reached for two well-known metals – silver and gold. The silver part of the coin depicts a koi carp, and the gold part – a swallow. Inspiration by Chinese folk art and exceptional attention to detail have resulted in spectacular effect in this design.
The gold and silver are distinguished by their purity of 99.99%. This is a beautiful coin that provokes reflection. We should add that it is very rare item – only 288 copies were struck, dated 2019.
