Chinese tradition includes various forms of the dragon and the tiger. They are associated with two compass directions: the tiger represents West, whereas the dragon is East. These two characters sitting in balance with one another is a timeless duality.
The reverse of the coin depicts the design by a Canadian artist Charles Vinh. This is an image where both a tiger and a dragon are facing each other across the pierced center of the piece. The hole located in the center of the coin is a traditional Chinese minting motif representing the Earth and the traditional land mass. Above it, there is the symbol known as the Yin Yang Gold Coin which is surrounded by elemental flames.
The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt together with the inscription “D.G. Regina”. The portrait is engraved within smooth polished circle detailed on each side with stylized scroll work.
Each coin is delivered in a special maroon clamshell box with the brand of the Royal Canadian Mint on the lid and a black beauty box.
