The Tall Ships Legacy series includes four pure gold coins commemorating the most indelible ships in the Canadian history. This piece shows HMS Discovery.
The reverse of the coin includes the image of the ship sailing towards the horizon, we can see its afterdeck. She has been captured in a stern view during her famous 1791-1795 expedition in the Pacific. This three-masted ship is presented as she sails along the ragged coast of present –day British Columbia. The upper part of this ship is evident above the water and the decorations to the Red Ensign of the British Royal Navy are flapping in the wind. This image was designed by Neil Hamelin.
The obverse of the coin shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt together with the inscription “D.G. Regina” and the legal tender value of 200 dollars.
Each piece is delivered in a special maroon clamshell box with the brand of the Royal Canadian Mint on the lid and a black beauty box.
