This set of 9 silver commemorative coins has been created to reveal the beauty of the icons by Andrei Rublev.
The reverses of the 9 coins constitute the set of icons available in the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir (sometimes translated as Assumption Cathedral). Even though there is no writing proof that the icons were painted by the artist, it is a common belief that he was the author. Among the icons depicted in the coins, one can find the Deesis Christ in Majesty, which shows the Christ with an open text of the Gospel, sitting on the throne. On the other icons, there are saints who are praying in front of the Savior. Their faces are full of faith in a fair trial.
The obverses of each of the coins include the image of Queen Elizabeth II together with the date and place of issue and the legal tender value of 2 dollars.
The set is delivered in a special wooden box which emphasizes the beauty and uniqueness of the set. On the inner side of the lid, there is the inscription “Andrei Rublev 1408” engraved in wood.
