Some coins are created to commemorate the fate of endangered animal species. Unfortunately – here we can only talk about commemorating the Tasmanian tiger (wolf), the last representative of which died in 1936. The Swiss brand PAMP – Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux, known, among other things, for producing pure, decorated gold bars with a great reputation among banking and financial institutions from around the world, is responsible for making this particularly beautiful numismatic coin.
The reverse of the coin minted from 1 ounce of pure .9999 gold features the Tasmanian wolf, which centuries ago inhabited Australia and New Guinea, among other places. Over time, its occurrence was limited to Tasmania, where settlers exterminated the entire population with cruel efficiency by the early 1930s. The last surviving (until 1936) individual was in the Australian Zoo.
The coin, minted to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Tasmanian tiger’s extinction, has a relief design, highlighting the efforts of engravers faithful to the finest techniques. The colour scheme, the mirrored background, the fidelity to detail – all in gold of rare purity.
