In principle, coins from Niue amaze us with their original designs and precious metal content. Well, this time it was the case, too, when the inspiration for the design itself and for the mintage of exactly 842 pieces came from a meteorite impact.
In commemoration of the Campo del Cielo impact
Around 2 thousand years BC, the Campo del Cielo meteorite crashed into the lands of present-day Argentina. For centuries this story survived in Indian folk legends, which were then passed on to the conquistadors. Finally: to this day we can still admire fragments of the meteorite – several of them weighing from several to even tens of millions of tons.
In fact, the impact of Campo del Cielo has become the leitmotif of a reverse side of the coin, which might become yours. Just add the product to your shopping cart and complete your purchase. Please note that the edition of this numismatic coin was limited to just over 800 copies. Colour scheme, striking finish, all struck in… meteorite material!
