The reverse of the coin includes the image of the golden monkey. The creature`s portrait is located in the center of the coin and encircled by a jade decoration with the label: “The Year of the Monkey”, and an encryption in Chinese altogether with the date of mintage. The outer part of the reverse is made of silver and includes the images of monkeys playing in a jungle and sitting on trees.

The obverse of the coin depicts the emblem of Laos with the label: “The Lao People`s Democratic Republic” and the face value of 2000 KIP.
