It was in 1979 that the Royal Canadian Mint launched the Maple Leaf gold bullion coins. Thus, 2019 marked the 40th anniversary of this unique event, after which the operation of the Royal Canadian Mint and the perception of Canada in the numismatic world were never to be the same again. On this occasion, a special edition of the iconic GML has hit the market.
Pure gold for a special occasion
Each coin contains 1 ounce of 99.999% pure gold and a fine addition of rose gold highlighting the beauty of the classic maple leaf as designed by Walter Ott. Despite the fact that more than 40 years have passed since the introduction of the GML to the numismatic market, this motif continues to fascinate collectors from all over the world. In this respect, much credit is due to the Royal Canadian Mint, which, on the occasion of issues such as this one, ensures appropriate variety of the classic motif.
However, only 350 “anniversary” coins were struck. The edge bears special markings and the whole coin looks very elegant, as befits such an important occasion. While the coin is of collector’s value due to its limited mintage, its considerable material value should also be mentioned. Definitely worth investing in.
