In 2018, the Royal Canadian Mint celebrated the 30th anniversary of the launch of the iconic maple leaf bullion coins. One might say that it was a momentous event for the entire numismatic community. Though the celebration refers to the anniversary of the launch of the silver coin – 99.999% pure gold was used to strike this particular one, specifically 1 ounce for each of the 500 pieces in the issue. An extra ornament is the platinum leaf plating on the reverse, which adds a very elegant touch to the whole. Commemorative markings on the relatively wide rim represent another of the interesting additions.

There is no need to discuss the maple leaf depicted on the reverse at length.
