Canada`s wildlife has been captured in pure gold. Let`s welcome an astonishing pure gold coin commemorating the timber wolf.
! Its eyes are quick to notice any intrusion into its territory in the terrain of western Canada. Its gaze is also full of wisdom, pride and enigmatic intelligence. These features have been captured by the craftsmen of the Royal Canadian Mint in the fourth coin in the annual series of exquisite enamel-enhanced portraits of Canada`s wildlife.
The reverse of the coin includes the image by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc. It features a super detailed portrait of a timber wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis), known also as a Mackenzie Valley wolf. In the forefront, one can notice the facial features of the wolf. Its gaze has been emphasized by the application of a chartreuse-like colored enamel to each iris. Thanks to that, the eyes are given additional glowing intensity. The gaze is unforgettable and seems to be fixed on the viewer.
A careful study of the other features shows the outstanding amount of details – especially the fur appears to be engraved with special care due to the technique of intricate engraving. This method provides realistic sense of depth, texture and contrast to the animal`s ears, nose, fur and mouth.
The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II together with the date of issue and the legal tender value of the coin – 2 500 dollars.
Each of the coins is delivered in a wood case with a black beauty box.
