This commemorative coin has been issued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. First issued in 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin is still highly valued by collectors all-round the world due to an outstanding combination of unique craftsmanship and design.
The reverse of this coin constitutes a numismatic tribute to the image of the Gold Maple Leaf introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint. This is a simple, one-leaf design which has not been changed since its introduction in 1979. It has been always engraved in full details to give a live-like quality (this time this is the laser engraving technology). That is why such textural details as veins running through each leaf`s lobes can be visible.
The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt together with the inscription “D.G. Regina”, the legal tender value of 200 dollars and the date of issue.
Each coin is delivered in a special graphic beauty box with the brand of the Royal Canadian Mint on the lid featuring an iconic maple leaf logo and the official Canada 150 logo.
