Another piece in the Tall Ships Legacy series of pure gold coins minted by the Royal Canadian Mint introduces the astonishing image of the Amazon. The ship known also as the Mary Celeste was immortalized and fictionized by television shows, plays and songs. She was also described by Arthur Conan Doyle, the later creator of Sherlock Holmes.
The reverse of the coin depicts the ship heeled over as the wind fills her canvas sails and drives her forward through choppy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks to intricate engraving, one can see the ship recreated in full details, staring from the headsails to the anchor on the bow. The image was designed by a Canadian artist Neil Hamelin.
The obverse of the coin shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt together with the inscription “D.G. Regina” and the legal tender value of 200 dollars.
Each coin is delivered in a special maroon clamshell box with the brand of the Royal Canadian Mint on the lid and a black beauty box.
The coin is available in limited mintage of only 275 coins worldwide.
