Until the 19th century, the bison reigned as the dominant animal in the regions of Canada form Manitoba to Alberta. Due to its physical features, the bison has always been the symbol of strength.

 
The reverse of the coin includes the image of a family of bison. The design by Canadian artist Claudio D’Angelo introduces a bull, whose side is seen as it stands in the background, a female laying on the grass and a calf. Above the image, there is the inscription “Canada”, below it – the legal tender of the coin together with the date of issue and the proof.

The obverse of this coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt. This side includes the inscription “ D.G. Regina”.
Each piece is encapsulated and presented in a maroon clamshell packaging with the Royal Canadian`s Mint brand on the lid. A numbered  Certificate of Authenticity is included.
