The Treasures of Australia is a series of gold coins scheduled for release between 2007 and 2011. It celebrated five glittering prizes found in Australia: Sapphires, Opals, Diamonds, Gold and Pearls.
The 2008 piece includes a transparent locket with 1-carat Australian opals. In the ancient times, the stone symbolized hope and purity. In modernity, it is a birthstone representing people born in October.
The reverse of the coin includes the image of an Australian desert. This beautiful landscape is an abstract interpretation of a factual desert. Below the design, there is the transparent half-circle locket with opals. At the bottom of the coin, there is the inscription “Treasures of Australia”.
The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II situated above the locket. The legal tender value of 100 dollars and proof are visible below the capsule.
Each piece is delivered in a special presentation box with jarrah timber lid featuring a circular viewing window. A numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included. The box comes in a stylized box shipper.
This beautiful coin by Perth Mint has been released in limited mintage of only 556 pieces worldwide.
