The stunning Australian Opal Series, featuring eight coins in total, celebrates some of Australia’s most fascinating nocturnal creatures, created in pure Australian opal. The eighth release in the Australian Opal Series features the Ghost Bat. The Ghost Bat is native to Australia and the only bat in the country that is carnivorous. The bat is named for the extremely thin membrane of its wings that makes it appear ghostly at night. These nocturnal creatures live in caves across the northern part of Australia.
The coin’s reverse incorporates an inner panel of pure Australian opal, featuring a flying Ghost Bat design. The outer panel of the coin features intricate caves and Kurrajong flowers. The design includes the inscription GHOST BAT, the 2015 year-date, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin is presented in a prestigious display case with a light, which turns on as you open the lid, to represent the moon shining down on the nocturnal creature. The coin is accompanied by a stunning illustrated shipper and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
